18th IWR - day one for Laser and RS:X
18th IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA - First races for Lasers and RS:Xs
Imperia, 3 December 2007
The first day of races for Lasers and RS:X
at 18th Imperia Winter Regatta hab been a very demanding day.
The night before the start a very strong southwesterly wind blew over
the area of Imperia: in the morning the wind was not so strong, but
there was a very rough sea. This resulted in a postponement of the
start until the beginning of the afternoon when the wind turned from
Easterly direction,about 12/14 knots.
It was then possible to sail two races for RS:X and only one race for
Laser Standard sailors that came to an end just before the sunset.
In the RS:X class the Lituanian Juczas Bernotas has been the first
one to cross the finishing line in both races, while in the Laser
class the winner has been Italian Giacomo Bottoli.
After the races a welcome party has been held in the IWR headquarter
for the sailors taking part to the event.
Tomorrow some more races are scheduled starting from 10.30am.
Main sponsor of IWR is the famous hat company Borsalino: a special
Borsalino prize will be awarded to the winners of 470 class both male
and female.
