18th IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA ˆ everything‚s ready for doubel handedImperia, 6 December 2007
The first round of Imperia Winter Regatta finished yesterday and now the Oneglia harbour is goig to get full with 420s and 470s. The fleet of more than 200 doublehanded boats will race from tomorrow to sunday 9th December.
There will be two race areas located in front of Imperia harbour: 470 will have only one start for both male and female sailors, while 420s will have to different start.
Among team taking part in the event entries have been registered from Austria, Croatia, Finland (they got to Imperia some weeks ago for training), France, Germany, Greece (10 crews), Monaco, Slovenia, Spain (3 female 420 teams). In the 420 class some names of crews are British brothers Saxton, the Greek Tsokaras/Mogadam, the Spanish girls Borrego/Sala.
In the 470 class the winner of prevoius 2006 IWR , Italian Zandonà/TRani will be racing once again.
Tomorrow beginning from 10.15 hrs the first out of the nine scheduled races will be fired: in the afternoon at 17.00 hrs the opening ceremony at the headquarter with a party offered by Imperia municipality.
Main sponsor of IWR is the famous hat company Borsalino: a special Borsalino prize will be awarded to the winners of 470 class both male and female.
The IWR is an ISAF Grade 3 event.

Imperia Winter Regatta is organized by Yacht Club Imperia (www.ycim.it): YCIM established one year and half ago from through the merging between Circolo Velico Imperiese and Porto Maurizio Yacht Club. The Chairman is Riccardo Guatelli, Event Director is Luigi Rognoni.
