2006 IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA, FIRST CALL!Imperia, 27th July 2006
The 2006 edition of Imperia Winter Regatta will be sailed on next December, but a lot of attention is already growing around this important international event. Starting the 3rd to the 10th of next December the Yacht Club Imperia will host a lot of crew coming from various Countries, and they will sail one of the most popular winter race in Europe.
Last year record in terms of participants (more than 250 boats coming from 12 nations) has already surpassed: looking at the interest IWR is exiting the expectation are big.
The most important news for 2006 is race dates have been extended from 4 to 8 days, to allow two more classes sailing together the traditional ones. So IWR 2006 will be sailed by two Youth dinghies (L≠Equipe and 420) and three Olympic classes (470, Laser and the new windsurf RS:X).
For staying in touch with the sailing people, IWR is now in tour around the Europe. Two Italians crews will sail the Worlds and the Europeans in the 420 class with the colors of IWR on their sails. Anna Pissarello and Giulia Moretto are leaving to Gran Canaria where they will sail the 420 Ladies World Championship. The crew of Yacht Club Imperia Agostino Amoretti e Guido Iaquinti will sail the Junior Europeans in Tavira, Portugal, on next August.
The Organising Committee would support these crews in order to popularize even more the event around the world, and to extend the invitation to join IWR to even more countries and participants. And they decide to award this task to the class representing the bigger and more popular fleet sailing at IWR.
420 is the traditional class for this event, and now, after some years of sailing in Imperia, also 470er are going to be a popular class at IWR. O.C. is hoping also new invited classes (Laser and RS:X) will follow the same way.
