IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA LASER'S 2nd DAYImperia, 5th December 2006 - On the second day of the 17th edition of
Imperia Winter Regatta two more races have been sailed for Olympic Laser classes - Standard and Radial (two female sailors).
On a sunny and warm day a westerly wind up to 8/10 knots blew over the race area and two more races could have been completed for the 23 boats: the first start has been fired after an AP delay due to the lack of wind at the scheduled time. Then the Race Committee had to hoist again the AP during the start procedure in order to change the starting line mark, but finally it was possible to start the race. The second race as well was had a delay due to a general recall.
First to cross the finishing line of both the races was Irish Anthony Roger Craig who could lead the fleet all ove the time: "In the first race - he said - I started on the left side of the line while the fleet was on the right so I could take advantage and get the leadership. In the second race, once again very demanding with big long waves I stayed in the middle of the sail area, a good option as I rounded the windward mark in the third position gaining the first position again in the first downwind leg".
Leader of the overall results after 5 races (one discard) is still the Italian Giacomo Bottoli with today's results 1-4; the second one is the Irish sailor while the thrid one is the Lituan Rimsas Laurynas with today's results 11-6.
Tomorrow, starting from 10.30 hrs some more three races are scheduled.
Unfortunately no RS:X sailors came to Imperia to take part in the event.
Motoplanet, area store of DUCATI, the company established in 1926 and
producing sport motorbikes featuring powerful "desmodromics" engines, innovative design and vanguard technology will be present at IWR with brand new model 1098 from 8th to 10th December exhibit on the area where the boats will be parked ashore, on the harbour.
The IWR event has the contribution of the Sport, Tourism and Events Council of the town, the patronage of the local governments and the cooperation of the Coast Guard, Imperia Mare (tourist harbour of Imperia), and LNI Imperia.
