THE IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA CALENDAR IS ON LINEImperia, 18th December 2006 - A week after the end, the Organizing Committee of Imperia Winter Regatta is proud to announce that a photo calendar is on line in the event website to celebrate New Year and the success of the event held for the 17th time. You can download and/or print two different calendars, a Lasers release and a 420 and 470 release.
In 2006 as well IWR recorded a high international level of entries.
About 250 teams in the different classes - Laser (Standard and radial), 420 (Open and Ladies), 470 (Male and Female), L'Equipe - took part to the event coming from 13 different countries: Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lituania, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland.
Unfortunately no RS:X sailors came to Imperia to take part in the event.
All the scheduled programs has been completed with 8 out of nine races for the 23 Laser fleet (including 2 girls in the radial division).
In 470 Olympic class and 420 class sailed 6 out of nine scheduled due to the second day stop forced by Coast Guard (apparently due to unsafe weather conditions). Fortunately on the last day some more four races could be sailed.
A high number of teams, took part in the 470 - 41 males, 14 females - racing on the same race area with separate results with a number of high level crews, such as the Italian Gabrio Zandonà/Andrea Trani, ranking the first pace in the Isaf Ranking List who easily won the series.
420 class featured the largest participation with the two different division, Open (85 teams) and Ladies (40 teams), racing the same sail area with two different starts. Very high technical level in this class too: many participating teams will be on the starting line of World Championship in New Zealand in less than two weeks time.
Only one race, due to demanding weather conditions, for 25 L'Equipe fleet.
The IWR event is ranked ISAF Grade 3and has the contribution of the Sport, Tourism and Events Council of the town, the patronage of the local governments and the cooperation of the Coast Guard, Imperia Mare (tourist harbour of Imperia), and LNI Imperia, Colussi Group (Agnesi and Misura), UNO Communications and Gold Mediastore.
Technical sponsors of the event are Outreach Communication, Business Design, ICS (Internet Communication Solutions), Ingemar, North Sails Italia.
Next edition of Imperia Winter Regatta is Scheduled on 2-9 December 2007.
