18th IMPERIA WINTER REGATTA ˆ Day TWO for double handedImperia, 8 December 2007
Bright sun, mild temperature as it would have been spring and not the beginning of winter for the second day of Imperia Winter Regatta for 470 and 420 classes. Unfortunately the wind was very light even if at the scheduled time
a 7/8 knots Northerly wind was blowing on the race area.
At scheduled time the fleet left Oneglia harbour ready for start but in one hour time the wind dropped and the Race Committee displayed AP over H in order to send teams once again ashore.
Another hour ashore and then the fleet left again the harbour bound to the race area where it has been possibile to sail one race for 420s and two races for 470s.
Female sailors of 420 boats had a first start fired but suddenly the wind dropped and the race had been abandoned. Last but not least at about 15.30 the start after two general recall (black flag after the second one) had been fired. First to cross the finishing line the Greek sisters Kaitatsidou followed by Italian team Barbera/Bocca from Garda lake on second place and Spanish Suria Palop/Basterra Moyua who now are in the lead of general results scoring a tie with Italian Wetz/Parladori.
Even more drifting the situation regarding the male 420 race: they could start after three general recall all of them with black flag. The winner was French team Pelisson/Rossi ahead of Greek Tsokaras/Mogadam and Italian Cattaneo/Nardi.
Leader of the results in the 420 male divisioni is now Greek team Tsokaras/Mogadam with a good point advantage on second one the tied team Greek Petrogonas/Kounas and Italian Meloni/Gemini.
Two races sailed for 470 fleet racing together male and female crews: general results after 4 races show Italian team Cherin/Noè in the lead just one point ahead of second and third one respectively Solvenian Hmeljak/Nevecny and Finnnish Lindgren/Helander.
In the female results the best team is still German team Wolf/Hanitzsch: Russian girls Ilienko/Gaponovich were the first crew to cross the finishing line in both races.
Tomorrow IWR will come to an end with same schedule starting from 10.00 hrs.
Main sponsor of IWR is the famous hat company Borsalino: a special Borsalino prize will be awarded to the winners of 470 class both male and female.
The IWR is an ISAF Grade 3 event.
